Hello friends,

I am Piyush Vaghela, blogger for 19svara, hope you’ve already read about 19svara.

I am a gujarati guy from Surat, Gujarat. Growing up, I always had ears for Hindi music, used to sing almost everything I liked from classroom poems to bollywood songs to even songs of tv advertisements. Recently I recalled couple of instances which in fact surprised me that I did love music since was very little. My father had a good collection of 60ties and 70ies Hindi music and I vaguely remember him playing music but by the time I grew up and came to my senses he had already stopped playing music ( he got just too busy with life so..) but once in a while I did check what all songs he had. I specifically remember that after watching the video of “Akele Akele” sung by Mohammed Rafi on TV, I played that song in a big tape recorder of my house and multiple times played the prelude which contains the echo of “Akele Akele”, I just loved that!!! ..also used to play multiple times the piano tune of Asha Bhosle’s “O Sathire, tere bina kya jina” ..very nice!! …well my mom too always hummed while doing her chores!! 🙂

Like any 90s kid, I was a huge fan of A. R. Rehman ..then at the age of 18, in 1996 went to engineering college in Dharward, Karnataka and came in contact with westen music, heard the pop hits like It’s my life by Dr Alban, Barbie Girl by Aqua, Brazil etc but they didn’t quite impressed me ..then I tried a cassett of recored songs from one of my hostel buddy, quickly liked Annie Linox’s “No more I love you’s”, found that song very different & beautiful from the bollywood music I grew up with, started thinking that there would be so many different & beutiful songs in westen music!! Was really exited like I am gona try the whole new and different world of music!! ..then I quickly started liking many songs like Waterfall by TLC, Love your way by Inner Circle, Another day in Paradise by Phil Collin etc just to name a few. ..then became fan of Boyzone, MLTR, Backstreet Boys, Spice girls, Savage Garden, Sting, Brian Adams, Scorpians, REM, U2, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd ..the list goes on and on.

So I think I have been listening to music for a long time and have good knowledge about Indian as well as Western music. Many people in India ( specially young generation) dont’ listen to old bollywood songs much and also they are not interested in Western music, so here I am with my blog to write my thoughts on how one can develope a taste for western/Indian music and would also share my knowledge of the music of both of the world.

Hope you find lots of musical information on this blog and stay high 🎧.
