Hindi: “Thare Rahiyo O Baanke Yaar” is a deeply emotional, classical-based classic hindi song. The song expresses longing and devotion as a lover asks her beloved to wait for her and not go away. The word “Thare Rahiyo” means “Please wait there”, and the singer pleads with her lover not to forget her. The song reflects the pain of separation, longing, and the hope of reunion. The instrumentation is gentle, with tabla and sitar, creating a soft yet intense emotional impact.
Western: “Fields of Gold” is from my favorite singer Sting. It’s an elegantly simple yet deeply powerful track. It tells the story of a couple who spend their days together in golden fields of barley, cherishing their love, closeness, and even their children. The song beautifully captures how the sight of golden fields swaying in the wind can bring back memories of love and happiness. With its soft, soothing melody, gentle acoustic guitar, and warm orchestration, the track creates a sense of nostalgia and deep emotional connection.

Hindi: The first track here, “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya” (1960), is a 65-year-old classic that still sounds remarkably fresh! It is a ghazal from the legendary film Mughal-e-Azam, where Anarkali boldly declares her love for Prince Salim in front of the King and the entire royal court. Fully aware that Emperor Akbar opposes their love, she sings fearlessly, knowing that such an open declaration could be seen as rebellion. Throughout the song, she taunts the emperor, repeatedly asserting that she will not hide her true feelings—even in the face of certain death.
Western: “Secret Garden” is a beautiful, slow ballad and one of my all-time favorites. The lyrics describe a woman who allows a man into her life to a certain extent, yet always keeps a part of herself closed off—a metaphorical “secret garden” that no one can enter. The song explores themes of emotional distance, vulnerability, and the mysteries of the human heart in relationships. Its gentle, melancholic arrangement features soft keyboards, delicate strings, and Springsteen’s tender vocals. A continuous synth pad plays subtly in the background, creating a mystical and intimate atmosphere that enhances the song’s emotional depth.
